History of Rhodan Marine
Rhodan Marine Systems, based in Sarasota, Florida, pioneered a game-changing innovation in the early 1990s: the first GPS-guided trolling motor, capable of functioning as both a standard trolling motor and a virtual anchor. The initial 1992 prototype was a technological marvel, though it required enough electronics to fill the forward cabin of a 34’ boat. After years of refinement, Rhodan released its first mass-produced model in 2009, continuously improving accuracy, performance, and reliability ever since.
Generation 1 (1992-1994): The world’s first GPS-guided trolling motor, a groundbreaking yet complex system built with the rudimentary technology of its time. This prototype laid the foundation for modern GPS trolling motors.
Generation 2 (1995-2007): A leap forward with a more compact GPS system, these motors were the most advanced of their era, though production remained limited.
Generation 3 (2008-2016): Rhodan’s first model that was produced on a large scale. These motors were entirely self-contained, wirelessly controlled units that began to resemble our modern designs.
Generation 4 (2017-2024): Enhanced with robust latching mechanisms, steering clutches, increased shaft diameters, and additional length options, delivering significant improvements in durability and performance.
Generation 5 (2025): The culmination of years of experience and customer feedback yielded Rhodan’s most advanced model to date. Completely redesigned from the ground up, it has features such as a rugged 316 stainless steel steering box, even larger 1.5” diameter composite shaft, and Bluetooth connectivity to ensure unmatched reliability for serious anglers.

With extensive engineering, CNC machining, and electronics manufacturing capacities in house, our Gen 5 motors are manufactured by the team of dedicated professionals at our Sarasota factory and represent approximately 90% US content.
